How self acceptance can help you move forward

The Art of self acceptance and how it can help you

We often spend too much time comparing ourselves and our journey to others and also listening to what others think which begins to shape our beliefs and thoughts instead of going within and listening to what is true for us. Self acceptance is essential to help us clarify where we are in our own lives and have the confidence and courage to do whats right for us.

We live in a culture where expectations to achieve things by certain times in our life is expected which begins to put unnecessary pressure on us to live up to what we think looks right to others instead of doing what FEELS right for us. When we spend more time comparing ourselves to others and worrying what others think, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy, guilt, sadness and low self esteem and confidence.

Ask yourself what beliefs lurk within your own subconscious and be honest. Are these beliefs truly yours or simply what society, parents or others have influenced you to have.

Journal Questions:

At my age I should……………………………………………………………………….

In my professional life I should…………………………………………………….

At home I should…………………………………………………………………………

Financially I should……………………………………………………………………..

In my life I should……………………………………………………………………….

As a parent I should……………………………………………………………………

After analysing your answers, you might be surprised to see how much unnecessary pressure you are putting on yourself based on other peoples expectations. You will feel exhausted if you are constantly ‘doing’ to fit in rather than ‘being’ who you truly want to be.

People think this is how life should be, yet when you stay true to you and your deepest desires you will be on the path to inner happiness and real inner confidence.

It doesn't matter what others are doing. It matters what you are doing.

Our thoughts on what we should have done. could have been, should be doing, would have happened, limit us and our future. Why would we do this to ourselves? Be kinder to yourself and ask yourself instead a much kinder question – “What was I learning, what can I learn?’

Accept your journey for what it is, accept that life is what it is and move towards what YOU want. Rediscover what you want not what looks good to others. We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are and it is only YOU that can create the life you want and live each day surrounded by that which brings you happiness.

Never limit you and your life by living to what you think is right. Feel your way to finding what feels right for you and then your life will open in more ways than you can possible imagine. You will feel less stress, pressure to conform and more ease, happiness and clarity, confidence and courage.

Ask yourself – How do you really feel about the life you are living? How much fulfilment are you personally getting in each aspect of your life?

This is the art of self acceptance. Beginning to accept where you are right now in your own life and who you are before you can begin the process of change. Begin with where you are now.
