Re-discover what makes YOU happy

♥ Re-discover what makes YOU truly happy

How do we find out who we really are, what we really want and what makes us truly happy? You will know if you are not feeling as happy as you could be and if your life doesn’t feel as good as it should when you feel like you are asking questions like ‘Is this what I really wanted in life?’ ‘Am I living my life or someone elses?’

Are you worrying about what everyone else thinks and know that there are changes you have to make but you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you have made big changes and now feel disconnected to who you thought you were and your identity as a person. These are scary and overwhelming feelings to admit too at times but in order to be truly happy, its so important to reflect on them.

When we begin to live our life from the core essence of whom we really are, that is when life begins to feel amazing. You will begin to wake up each day with a sense of wonder and excitement. You start to love life. It starts with realising what makes YOU truly happy as a person.

A great way of identifying what makes you really happy is to find a picture of you as a child and remember all the things that made you happy then. This is the closest you will get to find the real authentic you.

Ask yourself some heart searching questions such as –

What do you remember about this little girl?

What did she enjoy?

What was her character like?

Re-discover who you really were, understand your true feelings, character, personality, dreams and aspirations.  Journal what you have realised about yourself and also write down ways that you can start gently doing some of things that you loved and made you happy as a child. This truly helped me start to work out what I really wanted and who I really was. I realised that I was a real free spirit who needed fun and adventure. I loved nature, loved walks, the beach. I loved dancing, cooking, reading and so much more. Life as an adult can become so serious at times, and we need to nurture the fun and free side of us.

I also wrote a letter to myself several years ago pretending to be the age of 80/90 looking back on my life which really scared me at the time as it made me realise I wasn’t living life the way I wanted. I was too worried about being different, too anxious about what people would think, too unsure about whether it was the right thing to do…….yet my words on paper showed me what I really wanted.   I didn’t want to live my life with regret, life is too short and the only person that can make us truly happy is ourselves.

♥ Identify what YOUR values are

When we begin to identify what our values are, when we start to accept ourselves for everything we really are, we start to move towards an authentic life. Explore and assess your beliefs and values. A great way to start exploring what your values are is thinking about what kind of person you want to be. Brainstorm words that you would like to define you as a person and write them in your journal. These are words that are just for you and how you think about yourself. Question yourself – I am here to be……(your name)…….what does that mean for me?

Then, select three of those words that you would like to live by each day, that you really want to sum up you as a person. Write in your journal – ‘I choose these words because…………………..

My words are Authentic, Adventurous and Happy because being authentic and living from my heart and soul is so important to me. Happy, because I have finally realised what inner happiness for me is and want to always remind myself to do what makes me FEEL happy. Adventurous because having fun is one of my most important values and I want to truly live my life and explore and discover as much as possible.

Next, choose three words that could sum up how you would like your interactions with others to be. My words for my relationships and interactions are – Peaceful, loving and fun.

These words are in my journal, on a poster and I also at one point had them on a timer on my phone to come up during the day as a reminder.

As you begin to identify what qualities are important to you, you can begin to make the necessary changes and become more clear on what you can do and who you can become. One of the most defining choices you will ever make that leads to inner happiness is deciding what kind of person you will be. What will you stand for? What positive values, standards and beliefs will you try to adhere to every day? Continually ask yourself – ‘Do my actions reflect the quality of the person I want to be and can be?’ Its a process and change takes time but if you make small changes in how you are every day, eventually this leads to a huge change as a happier, healthier, stronger, kinder person. Celebrate every step in the right direction and never ever berate yourself when you make mistakes. Mistakes make us wiser, stronger and are part of life.

Become aware of your life and who and what you surround yourself with every day. Recognise your boundaries, learn to say No to anything that doesn’t resonate in your mind, heart and soul. Say No to anything that doesn’t feel good and right for you and how you want to be as a person and what you want to create in your life.

Live your life unattached from the approval of others by concentrating on what makes you happy. Start accepting yourself now, exactly as you are. A beautiful woman with amazing potential to be whatever you wish to be.
